The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded on Vijayadashami in 1925, conducts annual uniformed marches across the country as part of its Vijayadashami observances.
In Tamil Nadu, RSS marches have been held for decades, though permissions were previously denied during a DMK regime and later obtained after legal proceedings. This year, as the organisation marks 100 years and enters its 101st year, it planned marches at 128 locations across the state.
After the state government denied permission, RSS state secretary Jagadeesan moved the Madras High Court. The court permitted marches at 128 locations on October 25 and November 2.
As per the schedule, marches are being held today (October 25) in multiple places including Chennai. In the city, processions are planned at Tiruvottiyur, Kolathur, Egmore, Korattur, Ayyappanthangal, Medavakkam and Chromepet.
In Egmore, the march is set to begin at 4.00 pm near the Ramada Hotel and conclude near Rajarathinam Ground, where a public meeting will be held. RSS also said the Kolathur march will start at 3.00 pm near the Kamarajar statue in Peravallur.
