Statement in Tiruchirappalli
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh, speaking in Tiruchirappalli, responded to a question raised by former minister Sekarbabu about whether the department lacked funds.
Pending works and budget priorities
Ramesh said he had already placed on record in the Assembly how many temple construction projects were stalled midway and how many had not even begun. He added that if detailed data were available, the former minister could have explained it clearly on the Assembly floor.
According to the minister, around ₹400 crore is required to address works that are already halted and those yet to start. He said the current budget is being used to take forward essential construction needs and consecration (kumbabhishekam) works, while avoiding projects that are not necessary and are purely commercial in nature.
No extra payment for services
Ramesh urged devotees not to pay if anyone demands additional money for temple services, including services that should be provided free. He said people can file complaints against such individuals with supporting evidence, and action will be taken.
Special access for vulnerable groups
He also said instructions have been issued to allow persons with disabilities, pregnant women and senior citizens to use special routes for darshan at temples.
