Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could carry out another large-scale military strike on Iran under the name “Operation Epic Fury” if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington.
Trump referred to a February operation in which the US and Israel jointly attacked Iran under the same name. He claimed the strike killed Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several members of his family.
He also reiterated an earlier assertion that Iran’s nuclear enrichment capability had been destroyed through an operation called “Midnight Hammer.” While the immediate conflict has eased, tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides continuing to issue threats of retaliation.
Speaking at a Republican campaign event in Florida, Trump said the US could conduct “a small Epic Fury” again and urged Iran to come to the table quickly. He did not spell out what conditions Iran would need to meet to avoid another strike.
In response, Iran warned that if the US and Israel attack again, it would target undersea communication cables in the Gulf region. Separately, following intelligence warnings that Iran could target US officials, staff have reportedly been evacuated from US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia.
