Ravik Kumar Diwakar, who served as an Additional District and Sessions Judge in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, has been transferred to the Muzaffarnagar Family Court.
Diwakar joined the Uttar Pradesh judicial service in 2009 as a junior civil judge. He holds degrees in commerce, an undergraduate law degree and a postgraduate law degree.
During his tenure, he drew national attention for awarding death sentences to a total of 36 convicts—23 people across 11 cases in Muzaffarnagar and 13 people earlier in Bareilly.
While he was posted at the Muzaffarnagar fast-track court, 97 major criminal cases, including murder matters that were under trial before him, were abruptly withdrawn by the district judge through an administrative order in August 2026.
In one of his orders, Diwakar questioned whether cases where trial had begun could be shifted through an administrative directive, and remarked that he would prefer death over living in fear of criminals. He has now been replaced at the fast-track court by Shiv Kumari.
