A retired Army officer was arrested in Vellore district over allegations of leaking sensitive military information through WhatsApp, police said.
The accused, Babu (52) from Keezhvallam village near Kaniyambadi, served in the Army for about 28 years across multiple units. He retired last year after serving as a Captain in the Army’s logistics wing.
Investigators allege that Babu sent confidential details related to military logistics to a woman on WhatsApp. Police said he had been sharing such information for about a year, after obtaining details by making enquiries within the Army.
The activity was detected by military intelligence officials, who brought him to the Vellore Taluk Police Station for questioning. After the inquiry, he was handed over to the Vellore Taluk police and was arrested on Friday morning.
Police said central intelligence officials have also questioned him. The identity and nationality of the woman he was communicating with are not yet known, and further investigation is under way.
