Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has decided not to travel to Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district for the Muthuramalinga Thevar Guru Pooja, following an alert from the police and the intelligence wing, according to reports.

The annual Guru Pooja is scheduled to be held on October 30 at the memorial of Muthuramalinga Thevar in Pasumpon village. The Chief Minister was earlier expected to participate, and district officials and the police had been making arrangements.

However, the plan was later dropped. Party functionaries said the decision was influenced by security assessments, noting that large crowds typically gather wherever the Chief Minister visits.

They added that the Pasumpon event usually draws lakhs of people every year, and senior police officers advised avoiding the visit due to the possibility of crowd surge and any minor incident being politicised by opposition parties. The intelligence wing reportedly echoed the same advice, which the Chief Minister accepted.
