Senior DMK functionaries have reportedly conveyed their dissatisfaction to party president M.K. Stalin, urging him to ask Udhayanidhi to move away from “statement politics” and take up more on-ground political work.

According to the report, Stalin has been unable to travel extensively for party reorganisation due to health reasons. The seniors are said to feel that Udhayanidhi has not stepped up to fill that gap and has largely stayed away from field-level engagement.

They also pointed to recent by-election campaigning, alleging that while there was a strong chance of victory, Udhayanidhi did not campaign actively on the streets and limited his outreach. The report adds that after concluding campaign work on the 3rd, he has not been seen in public, further fuelling discontent among senior leaders.

Former ministers quoted in the report said issues such as electricity tariff, price rise and law and order require sustained public mobilisation, not just critical statements or social media content. They argued that without visible protests and direct engagement, the public may not place trust in the party’s opposition.

The report further claims that even Stalin is not pleased with Udhayanidhi’s approach, and that some senior leaders have directly told Stalin that the party cannot grow if this continues.
