A police complaint has been filed in Patna against Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge over an alleged defamatory remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father.

Kharge attended the 139th birth anniversary event of former Bihar Chief Minister Krishna Singh in Patna. During his speech, he strongly criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and also targeted the Prime Minister.

According to the complaint, a person in the gathering said that “no one can defeat PM Modi.” Congress workers allegedly assaulted the person and pushed him out of the venue. Following this, Kharge is said to have remarked that “even if Modi’s father comes, he will be defeated.” A video of the incident has been circulating on social media.

The complaint was lodged at Patna Kotwali police station by Krishna Singh Kallu, a member of the BJP state working committee. BJP leaders have condemned the remark, noting that it comes amid earlier controversy over alleged derogatory comments about the Prime Minister’s mother.
