Heavy rain has been reported across many districts of Tamil Nadu over the past few days. In areas where the intensity increased, district administrations announced holidays for educational institutions.
Collectors in districts including Coimbatore, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Nilgiris, Kallakurichi, Theni and Nagapattinam issued orders declaring a school holiday. Students in those districts welcomed the announcement.
However, Tirunelveli was not on the list of districts that declared a holiday. Some students, disappointed by this, sent messages to the district collector through their Instagram accounts, urging that leave be granted due to the rain.
Tirunelveli Collector Anand Mohan later shared the students’ messages on his Instagram page, describing them as “Rain Paridhabangal”. In a similar move, Kanyakumari Collector Prathap Murugan also posted students’ light-hearted messages on social media under the title “Rainy Days Paridhabangal.”
