Maharashtra’s Food Safety Department has cancelled the licence of a Blinkit storage warehouse operating in Bhiwandi after officials seized a large stock of expired food items allegedly kept in violation of rules.

During an inspection, the department found 18,405 food products that were unfit for sale, including expired and damaged items. The total value of the seized stock was estimated at Rs 32.71 lakh.

Officials said the warehouse failed to follow food safety norms, including proper disposal procedures for expired goods. Based on the findings, the department cancelled the warehouse licence and registered a case.

An inquiry is also under way to determine whether any of the expired items were sold to the public. Authorities have imposed a strict ban on shifting goods out of the warehouse while the investigation continues.

The action comes amid a wider enforcement drive led by Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Munde, IAS, under which inspections at warehouses linked to major firms such as Reliance Retail and Zomato have also reportedly resulted in licence cancellations after irregularities were found.
