A petition seeking to transfer the investigation in the Granite Veeramani case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) came up again before the Madras High Court on Monday.
The matter was heard by Justice V. Lakshmi Narayanan, based on a plea filed by Varagi of Tambaram. During the hearing, the petitioner’s side submitted an additional petition raising fresh allegations linked to the closure of the case.
According to the additional submission, assets valued at Rs 147.87 crore, said to belong to Veeramani’s firm, were allegedly transferred as part of efforts to close the case and file a final report.
The petitioner further claimed that an IPS officer, Arun, allegedly purchased gold worth Rs 24 crore from a well-known jewellery store in Chennai using bribe money. The money was said to have been routed through a person named Prakash Kannaiya, who allegedly fled abroad and went into hiding after the inquiry began.
The additional petition urged that jewellery receipts and bank transactions be examined to determine whether the gold purchase was intended to conceal the alleged bribe funds.
