Tamil Nadu’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has recently transferred 18 Joint Commissioners, citing administrative requirements. Sources said the reshuffle has triggered discontent among a section of officers.

According to the report, those moved include several women officers, parents of children preparing for public examinations scheduled in March, and officials who have not completed even a year in their current postings. The transfers have led to complaints that the timing is disruptive.

Department sources said shifting a few officials who were perceived to have acted in line with the previous regime’s preferences may be justified. However, they alleged that the latest round has also affected officers viewed as “good” performers, making them feel unfairly targeted.

The sources added that while periodic transfers—typically once in three years—are necessary, such changes should ideally be scheduled after the examination season. Attempts to seek clarification from the Commissioner on the transfers were unsuccessful, the report said.
