Israelis are voting in a crucial election that is expected to determine Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political future.
The contest is being closely fought between Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition and an opposition alliance led by former military commander Gadi Eisenkot. Several parties are seeking to unseat Netanyahu from office.
While the opposition is seen as slightly ahead, securing enough seats to form a government remains a challenge. Public discontent has been fuelled by setbacks linked to the war, the issue of hostages, and corruption cases faced by Netanyahu.
The Knesset has 120 seats, and a minimum of 61 is required to form a government. The next prime minister will be decided only after voting ends, official results are announced, and coalition negotiations are completed.
