Perambalur: Minister Rajmohan on Saturday criticised Opposition leader Udhayanidhi for questioning the government’s sale of fine rice at Rs 30 per kg through Amudham stores, saying the move is aimed at shielding people from the impact of rising prices.

In a media interaction, the minister attributed the price rise to changing economic conditions, the war in Gulf countries, fuel supply constraints and fluctuations in market rates. He said the government has taken steps to ensure the public is not affected, including selling rice at a subsidised rate through Amudham outlets.

Rajmohan also rejected Udhayanidhi’s allegation that ration rice is being “polished” and sold, and asked whether the Opposition leader was acting like a detective. He further said it was incorrect to claim that monsoon preparedness measures were focused only on Chennai.

According to the minister, separate officials and control rooms have been set up in every district to monitor the situation. He urged opposition parties not to politicise rain-related hardships and to focus on public welfare.

He also said vacant headmaster posts in government schools would be filled, and that sports, libraries and arts training would be prioritised to protect students’ mental well-being.
