The Supreme Court on October 27 issued notices to Rahul Gandhi and others in connection with a petition filed by a pregnant journalist alleging she was assaulted during a political march in Delhi.
According to the plea, the incident occurred on October 12 during a march led by Rahul Gandhi along with MPs of the INDIA alliance, held in protest against SIR-related works. The petitioner, Richa Parashar, a journalist with OneIndia, said she was gathering news at the site when the alleged incident took place.
The journalist, who stated she was 11 weeks and three days pregnant at the time, alleged that Rahul Gandhi held her and pushed her down during the march. She has sought directions for registration of an FIR against him.
The petition also sought an order for compensation. The matter was heard by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Jaymalya Bagchi, who directed that notices be issued seeking explanations on the complaint.
