TVK is preparing to face the upcoming local body elections after the bypolls in five Assembly constituencies, including Tiruchy East. Party sources indicate the leadership is considering a strategy to reserve 15% of local body seats for alliance partners and contest the remaining 85% under the TVK banner.

After its victories in the Dharapuram and Maduranthakam bypolls, TVK aims to retain momentum in the next round of by-elections in Tiruchy East, Viralimalai, Karur, Perundurai and Ambasamudram. The party believes performance in local body polls will be a key indicator of its grassroots support among women, workers and youth across rural areas.

According to the plan under discussion, the 15% share would be offered to allies such as the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Muslim League. However, alliance parties are said to be seeking a larger share, including mayoral posts, prompting TVK ministers and senior functionaries to hold talks to secure agreement around the proposed formula.

TVK functionaries said candidate selection would be designed to take on the organisational strength of the DMK and AIADMK. Ministers, MLAs and district secretaries are expected to be assigned responsibility for election work, while details of winnable seats are being compiled.

The party is also said to be prioritising those who have worked for TVK and individuals with strong local influence, stressing that local body elections require direct community connect rather than relying solely on Chief Minister Vijay’s popularity.
