Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s cooperative dairy brand Aavin has increased the prices of 67 of its fast-moving products, along with its special Diwali sweet range. The revised rates come into effect from today, with the hike announced without prior notice.
Aavin procures about 35 lakh litres of milk daily and produces over 150 dairy items, including curd, butter, ghee and paneer. These are sold through Aavin outlets, retail stores and supermarkets across the state.
The report notes that production of several Aavin dairy products had been reduced over the past four months, leading to higher sales of products from other states such as Gujarat’s Amul and Karnataka’s Nandini in Tamil Nadu. Against this backdrop, Aavin has now revised prices for key items: ghee is up by Rs 80 per litre, 500g cooking butter by Rs 40, and 250g milk khoa by Rs 30.
Festival specials have also become costlier this year, with Aavin citing higher raw material prices. For instance, 250g ghee halwa has risen from Rs 110 to Rs 125, nuts halwa from Rs 180 to Rs 200, ghee badusha from Rs 180 to Rs 205, cashew pista roll from Rs 310 to Rs 340, and kaju katli from Rs 250 to Rs 280. Savouries have also been revised, with 200g butter murukku moving from Rs 80 to Rs 95 and mixture from Rs 100 to Rs 110.
In a statement, Aavin Managing Director Sivarasu said the revision was made after reviewing market conditions, including prices of private dairies and other cooperative brands, and considering rising production costs. He added that Aavin’s prices remain lower than many competitors even after the hike, and said over 90% of the additional revenue would be used for the welfare of milk producers.
