Former DMK minister Mahesh was arrested following allegations that he received bribes exceeding Rs 100 crore to secure government recognition for private schools. He was later lodged in Puzhal prison.

From the time of his arrest until he was taken into the Puzhal prison premises, DMK members gathered around police personnel and protested the detention, according to reports.

Just before Mahesh was formally lodged, Vellore Corporation councillor “Ditta” Saravanan, described as a Mahesh supporter, allegedly made an angry remark to Mahesh referring to a “Karur incident” and suggesting the situation could have been avoided if matters had been “finished” then.

Based on a complaint, police registered a case against Saravanan under four sections. After he allegedly went into hiding, police traced and arrested him and are questioning him.
