Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India’s goal is to develop technologies that can provide solutions to global challenges. He made the remarks while inaugurating a Science, Technology and Innovation conference in New Delhi.
In his address, Modi said rapid advances in science and technology will reshape sectors such as healthcare and agriculture, while also creating new opportunities in education and employment. He noted that it is encouraging to see Indian startups being given priority in these areas.
He cited examples of startups working on technologies to understand brain function, as well as efforts to find solutions in communications through wireless connectivity and satellite-based links. He also referred to innovations in nutrition products tailored to specific dietary needs, the adoption of new technologies by Indian firms in the semiconductor sector, and research into solutions that use industrial waste.
Modi also recalled inaugurating an advanced brain research centre at IIT Madras. He said the centre is developing world-class technologies to study the structure and functioning of the brain, with a focus on creating three-dimensional digital images of the human brain, which could help address challenges linked to various brain-related diseases if successful.
