A post-election opinion poll in Israel has indicated a potential setback for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s alliance, following a high-turnout general election held after the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.

Netanyahu, who has served as prime minister for about two decades and is among the longest-serving leaders in the role, campaigned on pledges to confront Hamas and Iran.

According to the survey, an opposition alliance led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot is projected to gain a narrow advantage over Netanyahu’s coalition partners.

The poll estimates the opposition bloc could secure around 52 to 53 seats, while Netanyahu’s alliance may win about 50 seats. Despite this, Netanyahu’s Likud is projected to remain the largest single party in parliament with about 25 seats.
