Chennai: The CB-CID on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of a woman identified as Shanmugapriya in Perungudi, as the investigation continues into a high-value bribery allegation linked to former DMK minister Mahesh.
The case stems from a complaint that, during the DMK regime, more than Rs 100 crore was allegedly collected as bribes from private schools in return for obtaining government approvals. A case has been registered against Mahesh, along with DMK functionary Arasa Kumar and another person, Muthukumar.
Arasa Kumar was earlier arrested, remanded to prison and later released on bail. Mahesh was arrested on the evening of October 26 and has been lodged in Puzhal prison.
Investigators are questioning suspected persons and carrying out searches at locations linked to them. Police sources said Shanmugapriya is believed to be close to Mahesh, and the search is part of efforts to trace the alleged money trail and related evidence.
