Reports from Riyadh say Saudi Arabia has offered to provide Rs 9,500 crore to the Houthi group, through Iran, in a bid to stop attacks targeting the kingdom.
Yemen has been gripped by a long-running civil war between the Yemeni government and the Houthi organisation. Saudi Arabia has backed the Yemeni government, while Iran has supported the Houthis.
In recent developments, the Houthis have captured key parts of Yemen, prompting the Yemeni government to step up action against them with Saudi support. Following this, the Houthis have intensified attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The strikes have reportedly included missile attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities. Against this backdrop, the latest reports claim Saudi Arabia is seeking Iran’s mediation to deliver the payment and secure a halt to the attacks.
