DMK leader M K Stalin has submitted a petition to President Droupadi Murmu, listing nine demands related to the functioning of the Election Commission and the conduct of elections.

In the memorandum, Stalin sought that the Supreme Court’s opinion be obtained on the legality of decisions taken without majority approval within the Election Commission. He also called for a return to the ballot paper system, and until then, insisted on ensuring 100% counting of VVPAT slips.

The petition further asked for constitutional steps to safeguard every citizen’s voting rights. It demanded that the post-SIR voter list should not be used in future elections and that the SIR exercise be cancelled across the country.

Stalin also sought an independent forensic audit of ECINET and ERONET by experts not affiliated with the Election Commission. Additionally, he urged Parliament to initiate action to remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and to ensure collective decision-making within the Commission to prevent individual dominance.

Finally, the memorandum requested that the Supreme Court’s opinion be obtained on the issue of 97 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu not being included in the draft electoral roll and the possible impact this could have on election outcomes.
