Former Tamil Nadu school education minister Mahesh, who is lodged at Puzhal Central Prison, was visited on Monday by opposition leader and DMK Youth Wing secretary Udhayanidhi.
Mahesh was arrested in connection with an alleged irregularities case linked to recognition for private schools and was remanded to judicial custody at Puzhal. Police are said to be planning to take him into custody for questioning in the next couple of days.
According to sources, Udhayanidhi reached the prison around 12.30 pm and met Mahesh along with former minister Sekar Babu and others. The meeting lasted for more than half an hour.
After coming out of the prison, Udhayanidhi was seen speaking angrily to party functionaries present there and then left in his car.
Later, Sekar Babu told reporters that Mahesh had cooperated with the police whenever summoned and alleged that the arrest was made without basic grounds. He also said Mahesh had not sought any special facilities in prison and remained firm despite the arrest.
