Chennai: Prison officials have shared details about the daily routine of former DMK minister Anbil Mahesh, who is currently lodged at Puzhal Central Prison.
According to officials, he has been placed in the first-class section in a single cell. The room has basic facilities including a cot, mattress, chair, table and an electric fan. As he is a remand prisoner, he has been allowed to wear regular clothing.
Officials said the cell has an attached toilet, but there is no air-conditioning. They claimed he has struggled to sleep at night, and also faced difficulty due to mosquito nuisance in the Puzhal area, despite being provided mosquito repellent.
Citing health reasons, his lawyer obtained court permission for special food. Following the court’s direction and doctors’ advice, the prison is providing an oil-free diet including rice, rasam and boiled vegetables. As a first-class inmate, he will also be served meals with chicken curry three days a week.
For dinner, chapati and porridge are being given. He has been allowed to read newspapers and books and use the prison library. For security reasons, other inmates are not permitted to meet him, and outside food will not be allowed under any circumstances. As per prison rules, family members, lawyers and friends can meet him twice a week, and officials said he has also gone for walking exercise.
