The Union Cabinet has approved a set of initiatives aimed at strengthening rural governance and boosting domestic manufacturing, including a major push for container production and sports goods.
According to the announcement, the Cabinet cleared the Prime Minister’s “Vikasit Gram Swaraj” programme worth ₹7,395 crore to reinforce rural administrative systems and advance integrated village development.
It also approved the Khelo India sports goods manufacturing scheme to build a world-class ecosystem for producing sports equipment. In addition, a ₹10,000 crore container manufacturing promotion scheme was cleared to encourage domestic production.
In a post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the container scheme would provide financial support to new and existing manufacturers, enable globally competitive and certified containers, and reduce reliance on imports. He added that the Khelo India manufacturing initiative would be a turning point by expanding investment opportunities, supporting MSMEs, and focusing on research, innovation, skill development, quality, jobs and exports.
The Prime Minister said these measures would contribute significantly to Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and India’s global sporting ambitions.
