The Tamil Nadu government has invited tenders for the procurement of gold coins and silk sarees under the ‘Annan Seer’ scheme. The tender notice was issued on November 4.

Under the scheme, women will be given an eight-gram gold coin and a silk saree by the state government on their wedding day as ‘Annan Seer’, the traditional gift from a brother. Finance Minister Maria Wilson had announced the initiative in the Assembly.

The government has allocated ₹812 crore to implement the scheme and has issued a Government Order to that effect. The tenders have now been floated to purchase the gold coins and silk sarees required for the programme.
