The School Education Department has made arrangements to give cakes to school students as part of Children’s Day celebrations. A greeting card signed by Chief Minister Vijay is also being considered for distribution along with the cake.

This year, for the first time, students will receive cakes during the Children’s Day observance on November 14. The government has allocated Rs 10.5 crore for the scheme. Each student from LKG to Plus 2 will receive a 45-gram cake on November 13, the department has decided.

Directors Latha and Naresh held a Google Meet consultation with Chief Educational Officers (CEOs) and District Educational Officers (DEOs) from all districts on Tuesday. They said the cakes will be cream-free, and four varieties have been ordered. Supplies will be delivered school-wise on November 10 through the District Supply Offices (DSOs), based on student numbers recorded in EMIS.

Schools must store the cakes safely until November 13 before distributing them. The cakes stay fresh for up to 50 days. Students absent from school must be given their cakes at their homes. The directors said discussions are under way on providing the greeting card signed by the Chief Minister along with the cake, and urged education officials to ensure the scheme is carried out without any complaints.
