Inderjit Jagdi, a Sikh resident of Coventry in the United Kingdom, and his daughter Avatar Kaur have been given a ‘Good Citizen’ award by the city administration. The two run the charity Langar Aid, which provided more than one million free meals in 2025.
The initiative began in 2016 outside an employment centre, with just 30 meals a week. Today it serves more than 20,000 meals every week.
The effort draws its inspiration from the Sikh langar tradition, which offers food to everyone regardless of religion, age or background.
Coventry Mayor Roger Bailey praised the father and daughter, saying they reflect the city’s values of compassion, inclusion and community spirit.
