The Tamil Nadu government has informed the Supreme Court that there is no change in its decision to provide government jobs to the families of those who died in the Karur incident.

Last year, a stampede occurred during a TVK campaign event at Velusamypuram in Karur, in which 41 people died. After the TVK formed the government, one member from each victim’s family was given a government job. The Madras High Court subsequently set aside this order.

The appeal against the High Court’s decision came up for hearing in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (November 4). The state government’s counsel said a reply petition had been filed the previous day and sought time to submit an explanation, requesting that the case be adjourned.

The judges asked whether the state government remained firm on its position regarding the appointment orders. The state’s counsel replied that there was no change in the jobs already provided. The bench then asked why additional time was needed for the reply if the stand remained unchanged.

The court ultimately granted four weeks to file the explanatory petition and adjourned the hearing.
